Unfortunately, the top order could not carry through their fine form from the end of last season as the top three went for just 26 runs between them. It was left to the unorthodox Dave ‘the Chinese cut’ Barlow to anchor the run chase, whose career-best 42 contained a dazzling array of guided edges, very late leaves, and some sumptuous boundaries. Unfortunately, once White fell for 16, the reply began to falter, Astons eventually finishing 14 runs short of the total!

In reply, Wytham had their top-order ripped apart by some accurate bowling and sensational catching, leaving them 23 for 6. From this position, they added some respectability to the scorecard, but no more, as Astons comfortably closed out the innings and the match. |

With the ball bouncing and swinging around like it was allergic to willow, the bowlers decimated a batting line-up that had put on over two-hundred-and-thirty against us the previous season. Stand-out was Dan White, who returned remarkable figures of five overs, four maidens, three wickets, for three runs! After posting the measly figure of 54 runs, despite the early loss of Clark to a peach of a delivery, Smith and Shea steered the Astons to another comfortable victory. |

After the loss of Smith for 41, the top order supported Clark well in his attempt to reach his fourth career ton, but time got the better of him, as he was left stranded on 87 not out at the close of the innings. In reply, the bowlers kept the opposition batsmen quiet, with messrs Smith and Wigg bowling superb spells to tie down the Didcot ‘big guns’! After the loss of their top order, the middle order ‘shut-up shop’ in order to play for the draw, and despite the best efforts of the Astons attack, were able to do so as the game slipped into a stalemate. |
